Construction and renovation for business is always a daunting process, but for restaurants, it can be especially stressful. Not only do you need to be sure that your project will run smoothly, but you need it to be done in a timely enough manner that you will ensure your business is not hurt. Luckily, it’s more than possible to have a restaurant renovation that goes smoothly! Today, we’ll be walking you through a few tips to help!
Start With Location
If you’re already established in a location, you have this part easy, but if you’re looking for a new spot to renovate before you open, you’ll need to consider your location options carefully. The first thing to look at is if the location is accessible and whether there is competition nearby. When possible, find a site that is already easy to access, and that doesn’t have too much competition.
Co-Tenant Coordination
Unless your site is a stand-alone property, you may find that you need to work with the businesses around you to ensure your project runs smoothly. Even if you share a parking area, construction takes up a lot of space, makes a lot of noise, and can be frustrating for those nearby. Before you begin your project, make sure to meet with the businesses around you and make them aware of the project. It may even help to plan with your construction company to be sure that as they work, they’re not interfering with those nearby.
Plan Downtime
It can take some coordinating, but you should never plan a construction project for your busy season. It’s likely that you’ll have a few periods where usual sales are lower – this is the best time to have a construction period as it will minimize the lost profits significantly. Using your yearly data going back at least two years, you should be able to quickly identify what the best times for a renovation will be!
